XM Radio

Those who know me, know that I am a little boy through and through; I love tinkering with things. When I heard Circuit City was going out of business I could not think straight for several weeks until they actually closed, My head was buzzing with ideas of what to buy and tinker with next in my life. I first bought a decent camera for 40% off. Some of you may have already read about that purchase and how stoked I am for it.

I later saw some network attatched storage devices for 80% off. It was a few hours 'til close and they still had several in stock. I was not sure about my account balances so I put off buying some until I knew for sure I could afford them. Well, the next day I went all was lost and I was super bummed.

I later went back and saw that the satellite radio equipment 70% off. I figured out what I would need for my car to do a real, classy installation and spent $30. Now, I doubt I will EVER want to spend $15.00/ mo to listen to the radio. That's not the point. The point is that I once had an XM radio, but once I got rid of my car with the cassette player, I had no way of listening and have since wanted to Gery-rig the radio to work with my car.

So for $30 I find a way to keep my mind entertained and my hands busy, tinkering with my car and crossing wires. Here's a short photo Journal.

I had a lot of fun taking my car apart to figure out where I can run the wires and keep everyting coneiled.

The dificult part was powering the system. I did not want the power supply plugged in the the Aux power port and running to the unti with messy wires everwhere. To resolve this I went to Radio Shack and purchased a Y-spliter for the Aux power supply. I cut of one of the sleaves and spliced it to the back of the aux power supply so it would all be hidden behind the consoul.

On the left side you'll see felt adheired to the side. I adheired velcroe to the FM interuptor unit so it would stay neatly in place.
When all was said in done, I got the car back together with only the interface unit showing. No wires, no mess. I feel important now :)
